Obiettivo Italia 2026 – Geopolitics and global markets: how to navigate the landscape? Sixth event in Naples

In its sixth event, Obiettivo Italia brought together the region’s leading businesses and economic organisations in Naples to foster a discussion on the role of strategic infrastructure in the development of Southern Italy and the country’s competitiveness.

The South stands out as a strategic area, demonstrating a growth rate above the national average and increasing attractiveness for investment, infrastructure, logistics, energy and access to capital.

Southern Italy is, in fact, home today to a number of strategic sectors with strong development potential within the Mediterranean context:

  • aerospace, with a turnover of over 4.5 billion euros, accounting for around a third of the Italian total
  • artificial intelligence, where the use of AI has reached 12.2 per cent, doubling in just one year
  • shipbuilding, which is worth €2.3 billion and involves nearly 10,000 businesses
  • green energy, accounting for 51 per cent of Italy’s renewable electricity generation and 96 per cent of the country’s wind power production.

Here, the Southern Region of Intesa Sanpaolo’s IMI CIB Division, with two Corporate Centres in Naples and Bari-Palermo, serves around 1,000 companies, belonging to over 220 groups, with average outstanding loans of approximately 2.7 billion euros by the end of 2025.

As Gaetano Miccichè, Chairman of Intesa Sanpaolo’s IMI CIB Division, commented, the development of Southern Italy is a key driver for strengthening Italy’s growth and competitiveness, provided that strategic investments and projects are supported.
In this process, as Mauro Micillo, Head of the IMI CIB Division, emphasises, Intesa Sanpaolo acts as a financial and strategic partner, supporting businesses and institutions in accessing capital and expertise to strengthen the competitiveness of the region and the country.

The IMI CIB Division supports businesses through the Supply Chain Programme, an integrated offering that combines financing, supply chain finance solutions, trade finance, working capital management, guarantees and digital services, helping to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the region’s industrial ecosystems.

‘Obiettivo Italia’ is the national series of meetings organised by Intesa Sanpaolo’s IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, dedicated to engaging with businesses on the key drivers of transformation, including international scenarios, risk management and innovation.
‘Obiettivo Italia’ continues its journey and will visit Bologna and Rome in the coming months.
