Green Refinancing for Metro 5 S.p.A.

The IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Intesa Sanpaolo participated, together with a pool of domestic and international banks, in a EUR 342M financing transaction for Metro 5 S.p.A.. The new financing significantly reduces the cost of debt, strengthening the company’s economic and financial sustainability.

The strength of Metro 5’s credit profile and the attractiveness of Milan’s M5 Line are confirmed by the strong market interest, with participation requests exceeding EUR 1B.

The transaction was structured as a Green Financing, in accordance with principles consistent with sustainable finance standards, highlighting the contribution of the M5 Line to low-environmental-impact urban mobility, emissions reduction, and to the development of an efficient, modern, and accessible public transportation model.

Metro 5 is the concessionaire of Milan’s M5 metro line, the “Lilac Line,” a fully automated driverless infrastructure connecting areas of the city along a strategic corridor.

The M5 Line represents one of Italy’s leading examples of a public-private partnership in the local public transportation sector.

With this transaction, Intesa Sanpaolo, led by CEO Carlo Messina, reaffirms its role as a leading partner in the financing of strategic and sustainable infrastructure, supporting investments that promote innovative urban mobility, environmental transition, and the country’s competitive growth.
