A strategic platform for international growth

Chief of IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, Intesa Sanpaolo
Intesa Sanpaolo Luxembourg is a centre of excellence within our Division and a key pillar of our Bank, of our international strategy. Over the years, it has consistently strengthened its expertise and broadened the scope of its activities, supporting the international growth of the business.
The Division, as part of its Business Plan, intends to continue expanding significantly at international level. In this context, the continued strengthening, the development, the ongoing expansion of the activities and expertise of Intesa Sanpaolo Luxembourg will be crucial, just as they have been in recent years, in delivering all the initiatives set out in the Business Plan.
Today, the Division operates in 23 countries. But those countries, say, where we work alongside our clients every day, now account for a significant share of our revenues and play an equally important role in our future growth expectations, looking ahead.
This clearly demonstrates that a strong, solid, young Bank, with deep expertise, such as Intesa Sanpaolo Luxembourg is a key driver of our international growth strategy.
It is a story of continuous evolution, that has helped establish Luxembourg as one of Europe's leading financial centres.
Massimo Torchiana
Managing Director and CEO, Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg SA
Today, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg. The Bank was established on 2nd June 1976 as Société Européenne de Banque, on the initiative of what was then Banca Commerciale Italiana.
It was established in Luxembourg at a time when the country was beginning its transformation from a steel-based economy into a major financial centre. Today Luxembourg is one of the world's foremost financial centres; over the past 50 years, the Bank has played an active role and accompanied the transformation, establishing itself as a Bank, a centre of competence within Intesa Sanpaolo Group's Corporate & Investment Banking Division, mainly for the activities such as corporate lending, for services supporting international companies and companies’ cross-border expansion, project finance, structured finance, fund financing activities and also a range of capital markets activities.
Over the years, the Bank has also diversified its scope of activities, both geographically and in terms of products and funding strategy.
This transformation has been shaped by a number of important milestones in recent years. A significant milestone came and was completed in 2025 with the merger of another major Intesa Sanpaolo Group banking entity, Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Ireland, into the Bank. The merger was successfully completed in November last year.
Transformation and growth have defined the journey of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg, today the first Italian Bank of systemic importance in the Grand Duchy.
2025 closed with strong results in Luxembourg, with total assets exceeding EUR 34 billion, representing growth of more than 90% over the past three years, and operating income of EUR 338 million, up by more than 92% in the last three years.
These results were further strengthened from 1st January 2026, when Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg was designated a systemically important Bank in Luxembourg, one of the six banks of systemic importance, and, above all, the first Italian Bank to hold this important status in the country.
As part of its international strategy, Intesa Sanpaolo benefits from a strong presence in Luxembourg.
The new headquarters, Intesa Sanpaolo House, is also home to other Group entities, operating within a well-established ecosystem in the banking services sector, serving international clients, as well as the asset management and international wealth management.
In this context, Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg serves as a strategic hub supporting the Group's international growth.
Against a backdrop of global challenges, Intesa Sanpaolo, together with its IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, continues to rank among Europe's leading banks, driven by a business model built on clear strategic priorities.
