The Intesa Sanpaolo Group and the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division have long been committed to supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy, financing the transformation of companies' business models and production processes. Intesa Sanpaolo's Business Plan provides 80 billion euro over the NRRP time horizon for green and circular economy loans. We joined the Zero Net Banking Alliance in October 2021, further strengthening our commitment to the ecological transformation of businesses and setting ourselves the target of zero net emissions by 2050, including for those linked to the loan portfolio.

One of the most important challenges of the next few years will be the fight against climate change. In order to keep global warming within 1.5°C, as indicated by the 2015 Paris Agreement, a strong acceleration in cutting greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2, will be necessary.

In this speech, Gian Marco Salcioli, Head of Strategic Marketing & ESG Team coordinator, IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, explains what sustainable finance is and what role it plays in economic processes and how to seize investment and financing opportunities by applying not only economic and financial criteria, but also ESG criteria.

This is the first talk in a series of analyses and insights on the topic of sustainability, which will cover ideas, proposals, news, products, and trends in a rapidly changing economy.
