Financing for infrastructure in the UK

Intesa Sanpaolo's IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division has concluded two new financing transactions totalling approximately €500 million in favour of National Grid and National Gas, key pillars of the United Kingdom's energy infrastructure.

Specifically:

  • a line of approximately €290 million (£250 million) in favour of National Grid
  • a line of approximately €170 million (£150 million) in favour of National Gas

In recent years, Intesa Sanpaolo has significantly strengthened its commitment to the UK infrastructure sector, becoming a key financial partner in several strategic areas.

The IMI CIB Division has participated in numerous transactions aimed at the development and modernisation of British infrastructure, in particular:

  • in the construction sector, with loans totalling approximately €960 million (£830 million) to leading British groups, including Balfour Beatty, Kier Group and Morgan Sindall
  • in the port sector, with a bilateral loan of €58 million (£50 million) to Associated British Ports and participation, together with a pool of international banks, in a loan of approximately €240 million ( £210 million) to Peel Ports Group
  • in the energy transition sector, acting as Mandated Lead Arranger, together with a consortium of international banks, in the financing of approximately €2.9 billion (£2.5 billion) for the Liverpool Bay CO₂ Transportation & Storage project, an integral part of the HyNet programme for industrial decarbonisation in the United Kingdom.

The activities of the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division also extend to the entire scope of the country's strategic infrastructure, including social infrastructure, transport and sustainable mobility, digital infrastructure, industrial and airport infrastructure.

The Intesa Sanpaolo Group, led by CEO Carlo Messina, confirms its leadership in infrastructure financing in the United Kingdom, thanks to its specialist expertise, ability to structure complex transactions and solid international network.
