Sustainable Infrastructure: Dialogue for Europe and the United Kingdom

The IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Intesa Sanpaolo hosted the conference Infrastructure and Growth Opportunities for Europe and the UK: Focus on the UK Infrastructure Strategy in London, bringing together institutions, corporates and investors to discuss growth prospects linked to the United Kingdom’s new ten-year infrastructure plan. The aim of the event was to foster dialogue between the public and private sectors to accelerate projects that enhance the competitiveness of both the UK and Europe.

The new UK Infrastructure Strategy, covering the period 2025–2035, aims to promote infrastructure development, support the energy transition, and strengthen social and environmental systems through investments exceeding EUR 846Bn.

Financing sustainable infrastructure, while supporting the so-called twin transition (green and digital), remains a key pillar of the IMI CIB Division’s strategy, through which Intesa Sanpaolo is committed to backing the plan’s flagship projects.

The Division’s London branch is one of the main entities within the international network and serves as a strategic hub for operations in the UK & MEA Region, which also includes offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Istanbul. Since 2023, the Division has been involved in several international transactions originating in the UK, supporting transition and innovation, with a total value of approximately EUR 11Bn. Key projects include:

  • the Liverpool Bay CO₂ Transport and Storage (T&S) project
  • the completion of the acquisition of National Grid Transmission by Macquarie AM
  • renewable energy and energy efficiency operations alongside TRIG and SEEIT

These initiatives reaffirm the commitment of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, led by CEO Carlo Messina, to supporting sustainable and digital transformation, fostering the emergence of new growth models aligned with the objectives of the 2022–2025 Business Plan.
