The 21st edition of the Foro di Dialogo Italia - Spagna, jointly organised by AREL, SBEES and CEOE, was held in Rome on Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 December 2025.
For two decades, the event has brought together leading figures from the worlds of politics, academia, business, economics and communications, taking place alternating in Italy and Spain. As always, the initiative was sponsored by the governments of both countries, which participated in the Forum's work with high institutional representatives.
This year's Forum focused on the priorities for building a safer and more resilient Europe, with the following themes at its core: food sovereignty, common defense and security, the strategic role of transport and telecommunications infrastructure, and financial market integration.
On this last point, Mauro Micillo, Head of Intesa Sanpaolo IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, contributed to the discussion in the panel 'The integration of European financial markets: a strategic lever for competitiveness and security', emphasizing how strengthening infrastructure and deeper integration of European financial markets are fundamental conditions for efficiently channeling private capital towards major strategic projects. This perspective also includes the agreement signed this year by the Division with Masdar, a key player in the United Arab Emirates' global renewable energy strategy, aimed at consolidating collaboration in M&A activities. All this highlights even more clearly the need to overcome internal fragmentation and the obstacles to the common European market, in order to better direct private capital to support economic recovery and the investments needed to preserve and strengthen European competitiveness.
