We support with the EIB investments in the wind power industry

The IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Intesa Sanpaolo and the EIB have signed an agreement that provides for a EUR 500M EIB counter-guarantee and that allows to create a bank guarantee portfolio of up to EUR 1Bn, helping to trigger EUR 8Bn of investments in the European wind power industry.

This transaction is part of the EUR 5Bn Wind Package of the EIB, which aims to accelerate Europe's transition to green energy; the objective of the programme is to support the production of 32 of the 117 gigawatts of wind power capacity needed to enable the European Union to reach its target of generating at least 45% of energy from renewable sources by 2030.

The IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Intesa Sanpaolo will use the EIB's support to provide bank guarantees on advances received and plant performance to wind energy producers.

Over the past five years, the EIB and Intesa Sanpaolo have signed agreements worth almost EUR 5Bn; thanks to this collaboration, the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division has developed an innovative instrument designed to support major international groups active in interconnection infrastructure with electricity grids, allowing the initiation of strategic works at European level.

The transaction was originated and structured by Industry Infrastructure, in cooperation with the GTB Legal Advisory, Mature Markets Banks, Madrid Branch, Paris Branch, International Corporate Trade Finance Sales, Loan Management & SRT Transactions teams.
