En Ergon receives funding for the treatment of organic waste

IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division has signed, with a pool of banks, a 24 million euro financing agreement in favour of En Ergon, an Astea Group company active in integrated water service, energy production, district heating, waste treatment and gas distribution. The credit line will be used to build, in Ostra (Ancona, Italy), an innovative plant for the production of biomethane from domestic organic waste coming from separate collection.

The financing is characterized by a pricing mechanism linked to the achievement of decarbonization targets and will ensure certain levels of biomethane production and compost on an annual basis.

The project, 80% of which is already completed, has the capacity to treat, in a circular process, most of the organic waste from the province of Ancona: through fermentation, biogas will be released and converted into biomethane and fed into the grid; the remaining organic product, treated and dried, will be converted into compost and quality fertilizer for agriculture.

In the operation Intesa Sanpaolo has also played the role of Sustainability Coordinator, confirming its commitment to the circular economy in a sector, such as that of separate collection and recycling of waste, of important environmental impact.
