Technology for renewable energy in Italy

The war between Russia and Ukraine has accentuated the strategic need for the European Union and Italy to make greater use of renewable energy sources, continuing a path already started in recent years that has led our country to become the second largest country in Europe in terms of total energy consumption from renewable sources ahead of Germany and France (source: Eurostat 2020).
Italy has gained an important role in the production of components intended for renewable energy systems. It’s the third largest European producer and it is specialized, in particular, in the production of gearboxes, gears used in hydro and wind: about a quarter of overall European production is Italian. Our country also stands out in the ranking of world trade in renewable technologies, ranking second after Germany among exporting countries in the European Union and sixth internationally (source: UnComtrade).
It is important for Italy to maintain and strengthen this position, also by investing more in research and by taking advantage of the funds provided by the NRRP in support of the green transition.
